First MLB memory:

1983 AL East race Toronto at Baltimore - which through historical reference i see as a 5-team race, but i didn't realize that at the time - Tippy Martinez picks off 2 Jays, Lenn Sakata hits HR to win it. Upstart Jays - and my mother - are devastated.

...I wonder if Dave Stieb started that game, I can picture him slumping in the dugout watching the bullpen squander one of his leads...
